Work was exceptionally busy in the summer. In July, we received an order for boring a hole at the coupling point of a John Deere harvester in the Czech Republic, just over the German border. Initially, we entrusted the task to our partner – a customer who six months earlier had bought an Italian mobile boring machine. Unfortunately, despite starting work on site, the partner unexpectedly resigned and returned to Krakow, leaving the client in a difficult situation.
The customer was in a panic – the machine had to go back to work on Sunday. We made an immediate decision: we go to the Czech Republic and do the job ourselves.
Working in the forest – additional challenges
We arrived at the site of the accident in the evening, and thanks to the hospitality of the client, we had an overnight stay on site. As early as 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning we started work. The situation was complicated by the fact that the harvester was located in the forest. This meant that we had to work with a gasoline genset, so unstable voltage and the risk of power shortages.
Fortunately, we had with us the BORWELD SMART 40-1.0 – a compact boring machine that is only 314 mm long (the size of an A4 sheet of paper) and weighs less than 14 kg. As a result, it can be installed even in hard-to-reach places, such as just holes in machine joints.
Step-by-step repair process
After preparing the site and digging a pit for the harvester, we mounted the machine and got to work:
- Boring the hole – first we enlarged the hole by a few millimeters.
- Naping – we used a short surfacing shaft (0.5 m) from the BORWELD kit. Shafts of 2 m, 1.6 m, 1 m, 80 cm or 50 cm are also available in our service. All of them can be found in our online store. For surfacing we also used equipment available in the section of welding products.
- Rasting and correcting – the first layers of the surfacing required manual correction, but the subsequent layers laid down perfectly.
- Accurate machining – we gradually brought the hole to a dimension of 124.96 mm, so that the 125.1 mm diameter bushing could be seated with a proper fit.
- Additional work – we also carried out plane rolling and then set bushings and bearings.
The end result
After several hours of intensive work, the hole was restored with precision to hundredths of a millimeter, and the harvester was ready for work the very next day. The customer was satisfied, and we returned from the Czech Republic with satisfaction and a reward of 1,500 euros.
Such orders show that even in difficult conditions – in the woods, with limited access to energy and working time counted in hours – BORWELD’s mobile boring machines allow the work to be done quickly, accurately and without compromise.
